Bellevue Wiki Entry and Drawing Seattle's Boundary
What is Bellevue? Where is it, what's the history? Is is really part of Seattle?
The esteemed Wikipedia is increasingly the best source for background on most things. There's have a decent and readable Bellevue Entry. The entry traces a perimter around Bellevue and its adjoining townships.
So...Is Bellevue really a part of Seattle? The Wiki doesn't address this point, not yet. But, IMO, yes. Seattleites sneeringly decry it The Eastside, but it's still integral to the Seattle Metro Region. Just like Fremont is a part of Seattle...and Greenlake...Renton...and Woodinville and Kirland and Redmond, et al.
Where do you draw the line, then? I'd say Tacoma is not in Seattle, to the South, and Everett, to the north, is not Seattle either.
To the West, include Bainbridge Island but not Bremerton. Going East, North Bend is just barely in the Seattle area, but Snoqualmie Pass is surely out of range.
Feel free to argue these arbitrary boundaries with me.
The fact that Bellevue has its own skyscrapers just adds to the coolness and character of this burgeoning Seattle town.

I totally disagree. I think Seattle is in Bellevue!
Really, Bellevue is clean, relatively easy to get around in, and has plenty of places for recreation, shopping, movies, you name it. Seattle is a skein of roads/freeways/bridges where the crime is higher, everything is dirtier, more noise. Ick. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
Oh, and over 50% of the Bellevue population has a Bachelors degree as opposed to around 20% for Seattle - which is still the highest in the nation for a metro city. So, people in Bellevue are also smarter. :-) You want proof that we're smarter? Well, we don't live in Seattle, there you go.

I live just north of Bainbridge Island in Poulsbo...I would say that Bainbridge should definitely be considered Seattle, but the line would have to stop at the bridge off of the island to Suquamish (which you must pass through to get to Poulsbo, unfortunately.) I so truly wish Poulsbo was a part of Seattle. It's an adorable touristy town, but the schools are sub-optimal at best, the oldtimers are bitter for the most part, and the day-to-day shops are ... well...icky. (Save for one 'nice' grocery store that overcharges for everything.)
I'm hoping to move to the Bellevue area in 3 years. I still have a lot of research to do on schools for my son who will just then be enrolling. I hope it proves more positive than the schools here!
Hi Decaf and thanks for your thoughts! :) Yeah, i see Poulsbo as being just a bit outside of Seattle. Poulsbo would make a tough commute. It IS a cute tourist town, though. Why are the oldtimers bitter? (I can make a few guesses...)
I don't have children but I have heard very good things about Bellevue schools. We don't have the crime of Seattle (knock on wood, notyet), and it's so clean here. There's this atmosphere of excitement in the growth trend, like this is the right kind of growth, not just urban blight (like in...say, Southern California in the 80s and 90s).
Do your due diligence/research on school and good luck with your eventual move.
i don't bellevue is seattle...seattle is cooler. bellevue is definately the 'eastside'. i live in kirkland and work in seattle, they are separate entities in my opinion!
